Carr's Idea on Google
1. What are some of the key words/phrases in these paragraphs and how would you define them in your own words? The founders of Google (Sergey Brin and Larry Page) believe that our minds should operate at a higher speed capacity and the faster that we can surf the web allows our brains to operate at a higher speed. They also believe that everyone’s brains should be more enhanced or even replaced by technology. Google and other website companies collect information about us when we search their websites to provide us with advertisements because “it’s in their economic interest to drive us to distraction.” 2. How would you describe what Carr seems to be saying here? Carr seems to be saying that Google’s idea to make information available to us in an easier and faster way is actually affecting our thought process. Searching the web allows us to jump from thought to thought instead of grasping the main context of what we’ve read.
